Jonathan Taylor is the RSPB senior site manager for the Ouse and Nene Washes reserves in Cambridgeshire. The Washlands of the Fens were key to the drainage and creation of the vast arable district we know well today. These Washlands are two of the most important wetlands in the UK that are transformed from lush green pastures in the summer to winter storage reservoirs in the winter. Home to many iconic wetland birds the RSPB plays a major role in their on-going management. Jonathan will talk through the history and management of the Washlands, discussing the many challenges that face maintaining these amazing wildlife filled wetlands in the face of increased flooding and ever increasing pressure on our precious land resources.
